The property is set in one acre ( .4 hectare ) of native bush within the surrounds the Khandallah reserve. Khandallah is the name of the suburb in which we live. It contains a delightful village ( within ten minutes walk ) with supermarket, local pub, restaurants and “take-away” food shops. There are actually four excellent cafés within easy walking distance.

David & Barbara are your hosts along with Josh ( 13 years old ) one of four sons. The older three boys have now moved on but still enjoy coming home as often as their busy lives allow. The Cottage is separate from the main house so you can enjoy as much privacy as you like.

David & Barbara are a professional couple who love to travel, entertain and enjoy the many opportunities that exist living in Wellington. Both are long time Wellington residents and being New Zealanders there is a deep passion for all sports. Given our location there is ample opportunity for bush walks, or runs – for those of that persuasion.

The cottage is called “Kereru”

Kereru is the name of the New Zealand wood pigeon. We live in the bush and are constantly reminded of this with wonderful bird life all around us. The Kereru is especially impressive with its size inquisitive ways and powerful flight.

Set in the Khandallah reserve on the slopes of Mt Kaukau ( the highest point within the city boundary ) the property was one of the original homesteads in the area, being built in the late 1890’s

About Khandallah & local transport

Khandallah is a suburb of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. It is located four kilometres northeast of the city centre, on hills overlooking Wellington Harbour. The suburb's name, which means "Resting place of God", comes from a homestead built in the area in 1884 by Captain James Andrew, who had recently returned from duty in India. For this reason the suburb and those surrounding it have many place names connected with the Indian subcontinent.

There is an excellent train service into the city ( which in itself is a tourist attraction ) taking just twenty minutes. The main Wellington city train station is adjacent to the Westpac sports stadium – where all major rugby and cricket fixtures are held.
